Our Agroforestry Specialist, Chris

Chris Ka’iakapu

Chris is our Agroforestry Specialist working to promote and expand ʻulu agroforestry throughout the pae ʻāina by providing members with technical assistance, collaborating with partners and other organizations, and lending a hand on the ground whenever possible.

Before the Cooperative

Born and raised on Kaua’i, I grew up hunting, fishing, and gardening with love, respect, and curiosity for everything ʻāina-based. After returning from studies abroad in the environmental sciences, I’ve focused my involvement in local agriculture with the goal of helping improve our self-sufficiency in Hawaiʻi.

Prior to the co-op, I worked on and off for the past eight years, helping develop a small farm operation within Iwikua Non-profit on the west side of Kauaʻi. I also worked as an Operator at the Green Energy Biomass power plant and a native plant nursery manager at Alekoko Fishpond on Kauaʻi.

Chris’s favorite part about being a HUC team member

I’m excited to help progress the team’s mission to make ʻulu common in every Hawai’i household while improving our ecosystems’ health by increasing strategic regenerative agroforestry.

Chris’s hobbies and passions outside of work

When I’m not at the farm or garden, you can catch me in the ocean, on the trails, or at just about any community workday event on Kauaʻi.
